Two fatalities reported in vehicle collision

Baxter County Coroner Brad Hays and Henderson Fire Chief Robert Westbrook have confirmed a two-vehicle head-on collision on Hwy. 62/412 about a mile east of the Henderson Fire Station Wednesday afternoon has claimed two lives, with a third individual being evacuated by helicopter from the scene. Coroner Hays says no names have been released pending notification to nearest relatives.The accident is being investigated by the Arkansas State Police. As of 5:00 Thursday morning they have not released a report.

Chief Westbrook says the two individuals who died in the crash had to be extricated from their vehicles. He expressed his appreciation to the Gamaliel Fire Department who responded to the mutual aid call and assisted with the extrications.

He says it appears one of the vehicles crossed the center line but is not known what may have caused the driver to veer out of his traffic lane.

The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office advised of the accident at 2:40 Wednesday afternoon to alert those traveling in that direction.
