Darvell Nelson of Midway was given four years in prison during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday after pleading no contest to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The 51-year-old Nelson was a passenger in an allegedly stolen pickup truck stopped on a traffic infraction June 6th. A loaded revolver was found in the truck. Nelson, as a convicted felon, is not allow to own or be in contact with weapons.
The two other people in the truck — 50-year-old John Alan Gant and 46-year-old Dorothy Gant — both have active cases in Circuit Court stemming from the incident.
At the time of the arrest, Nelson was on parole.
In early February last year, Nelson had gone on trial on drug-related charges. At the start of the second day, Nelson decided not to continue with the trial and took a plea which resulted in him being sentenced to 10 years in prison.
