June precipitation totals below average, temperatures milder

The month of June saw below average rainfall and below average temperatures this year with a total rainfall of 2.91 inches recorded at KTLO, Classic Hits 101.7 and The Boot, the official weather reporting station in Mountain Home for the National Weather Service. The average amount of rainfall for June is 3.99, over an inch more than what was received. The wettest June on record was in 1928 when 15.04 inches fell. That total is the number four spot for wettest months ever recorded.

The driest June months on record were in 1933 and 1952, when no rainfall was recorded. Those two totals remain the top two driest Junes on record. The Twin Lakes Area last month saw eight days of precipitation with the fifth having the most at .86 of an inch.

The latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor, published June 27th, shows the entire Twin Lakes Area is out of drought.

June didn’t set any temperature records as the thermometer never reached 90 degrees. The warmest days were tied at 89 degrees on the 21st and the 22nd. The hottest day in June ever recorded was 110 degrees on June 19th, 1936.

The lowest temperature of the month was on the ninth when the thermometer fell to 52 degrees. The lowest temperature recorded for June is 42 degrees and happened on the 16th in 1917.
