
The filing deadline for school board positions closed quietly in North Central Arkansas at noon Tuesday with the only races developing in Baxter County.
In Baxter County, Clerk Canda Reese says there were no additional filings on the final day.
The filing of incumbent Ben Strider on Monday for the position three seat on the Mountain Home School Board set the stage for a race with challenger Daniel Smakal who filed last week.
A second race developed Monday at Cotter when Brandon Harber filed for the position three seat now held by James Morgan, Jr., who filed last week.
At Norfork, Chad McGowan filed for the position four seat now held by John Casey who did not file for re-election.
In Marion County, Clerk Dawn Moffet says there were no additional filings.
Eleanor Davenport filed last week for the seat she holds on the Yellville-Summit School Board.
In addition, incumbent Roger Leonard filed last week for the seat he holds on the Flippin School Board.
When the filing period closed, the third school district in Marion County, Bruno-Pyatt, did not have anyone file for the Zone 7 seat on the Ozark Mountain School District Board. That seat is comprised primarily of the former Bruno-Pyatt district. Randy Brumley was appointed to the remaining three years of a five-year term in March.
A spokesperson for the Searcy County Clerk’s office says without a filing, an appointment will have to be made to fill the seat.
In Fulton County, Clerk Vickie Bishop says there were no additional filings on the closing day, and no races developed there.
Incumbent Karen Coffman filed last week for the seat she holds on the Salem School Board and Andy McCandlis filed for the seat he holds on the Viola School Board.
The annual school election is set for September 19.
