murder and other crimes in the shooting death of his brother-in-law.KFVS-TV reports that 36-year-old Benjamin Ruhl of Doniphan is jailed on
$500,000 cash-only bond.
Ripley County Sheriff Mike Barton says deputies were called to a home around
2:30 a.m. Barton says Ruhl pointed a gun at a teenage girl, who alerted others
in the home.
Barton says Ruhl’s brother-in-law, 31-year-old Matthew Schrimsher, and
children ran from a basement to the main floor, with Ruhl coming up the stairs
after them. Barton says that as Schrimsher tried to close the basement door,
Ruhl fired a shot through the door, striking Schrimsher, who died.
Barton says Ruhl also shot at an emergency vehicle before fleeing into the
woods. He later surrendered.
