The Baxter County Historical and Geneological Society is teaming up with the Arkansas Humanities Council to co-sponsor an event for the Arkansas Historic Preservationi Program. The Walks Through History Tour of the Mountain Home Commercial District will be Saturday morning at 11 at the Baxter County Courthouse.
Most of the buildings in the area are commercial structures of masonry construction with a height of one or two stories. They are generally vernacular in style, and most were built either between 1900 and 1920 after the railroad’s arrival or in the 1950s when Mountain Home experienced another major growth period. The 1892 Baker Building at 601-603 Baker Street is the oldest building in the district.
