The North Central Arkansas Veterans’ Council has a new slate of board officers and a list of potential community projects, according to new chairman Larry Barker.
Listen:
Barker became chairman of the board in the council’s quarterly meeting earlier this month. At the time of the meeting, a plea had been issued for representatives of all Twin Lakes Area veterans’ organizations to attend to determine if the council would continue or disband.
With a number of officers resigning earlier this year, it was necessary for others to take leadership roles in order for the council to continue.
Barker says the North Central Arkansas Veterans’ Council is an informal organization of veterans helping veterans. It was created about 1972 to represent the needs of veterans in five counties–Baxter, Fulton, Izard, Marion and Searcy.
Listen:
The next event on the council’s agenda is the coordination of the annual Veterans Day ceremony. Barker says the Alley-White American Legion Post 52 will host this year’s event on Saturday morning, November 11 at 11:00 on the Veterans Plaza.
Barker says the Marine Reservists will be placing the flags on the courthouse lawn on November 10.
