In Thursday night’s regular meeting of the Cotter City Council, the board heard a proposal from Cotter Superintendent Vanessa Thomas-Jones and Cotter Shooting Sports Coach Steven Dewey to allow a shooting range on school property. Cotter City Mayor Peggy Hammock says a city ordinance would have to be amended to allow for the school district to have firearms discharged on school property, which resides within the city limits.

The council did not approve taking the Municipal League Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance, however they did approve a proposal from Hammock to continue their financial support for the Northwest Economic Development District in the amount of $110 to be placed in the 2018 budget.

Council also considered alternative dates for the November meeting as the regularly scheduled meeting time falls on Thanksgiving. Council members scheduled the next meeting to take place Thursday, November 16, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. at Cotter City Hall.
