A phone left at the scene of a break-in at the VFW Wilson-Byler Post 7730 in Calico Rock has led to an arrest.

Izard County Sheriff Jack Yancey says a deputy was dispatched to the VFW Monday after the manager advised the post had been vandalized. Entry to the building was gained by breaking a back window. The manager advised the oven window was smashed, all the coffee pots were broken, a cash box was taken and the place was trashed. A phone was found at the window where entry was gained.

On Tuesday, the Izard County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a second break-in at a store from the previous weekend. The owner advised tools and other items were taken.

A search warrant was executed on the phone found at the scene of the VFW break-in, and it was found to belong to 18-year-old Jessie A. Sanders of Dolph.

Sanders was interviewed about the break-ins, leading to him being charged with two felony counts of commercial burglary, a felony count of criminal mischief, and two misdemeanor counts of theft of property.

Sanders is incarcerated in the Izard County Detention Center in lieu of a $20,000 bond. Sheriff Yancey says the incident is still under investigation.
