A Newton County man who allegedly assaulted family members and had a standoff with authorities will stand trial. According to the Hometown Daily News, 30-year-old Jeremy Freeman of Mount Judea is charged with three counts of aggravated assault, terroristic threatening, theft by receiving, possession of paraphernalia, criminal use of a prohibited weapon and refusal to submit to arrest. He pleaded not guilty to all charges last month.

According to a police report, Freeman reportedly beat some of his relatives and locked himself in a room during the incident in November. Newton County Sheriff Keith Slape says Freeman then took to Facebook where he posted disturbing updates and threatened the sheriff’s office.

Court records show no pre-trial issues to be heard at Freeman’s most recent appearance. His public defender petitioned for fitness to proceed and criminal responsibility exams. Freeman’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 25th.
