A Mountain Home man turned himself in to law enforcement and was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center Thursday afternoon on failure to appear charges stemming from an incident in August 2017 when he was found living in a house without permission. Online jail records indicate 34-year-old Christopher Sanders was released less than three hours later.
Sanders was originally charged with a felony count of residential burglary, along with misdemeanor counts of theft of property, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sanders, along with 36-year-old Sara Sanders, was arrested when Baxter County Deputies responded to a report of suspected trespassers at a residence along Springlake Drive.
The owner of the home was out of town at the time and confirmed that no one had permission to be in the residence.
During the investigation, it was determined Christopher Sanders did know the son of the home owner and had even spent the night at the residence once about 10 months before his arrest. The couple admitted to deputies they did not have permission to be in the house, and they had gained entry through a back door.
A search of the residence uncovered approximately 8.1 grams of marijuana and various items of drug paraphernalia. The deputies reported it appeared the couple had been living in the house for a number of days.
The two appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court in September where they entered not guilty pleas.
