Mountain Home native Jesica Talbert is the author and illustrator of the children’s book “The Little Traveler.” Talbert posted the book publicly for purchase on New Year’s Eve after giving copies to her family and friends on Christmas of last year. The inspiration for the book came after her brother, 28-year-old Travis Dean Cox, died tragically in a motorcycle accident in 2012.
Talbert says she wrote the book as a way to share her brother’s memory while inspiring creativity and encouraging confidence. She believes in sharing his memory and that she can create something positive from the tragedy.
The idea for the book came from a goal Talburt had for 2017. While taking notes to share in later years of the entertaining conversations she had with her sons at bedtime, Talburt got the idea to try her hand at writing a children’s book. This idea became a way to remember and honor her brother, Cox, and show her mother, Tracie Dennis, the impact she had, when Talburt was a child, and the impact her mother continues to have.
Talburt states, “sharing his [Travis’s] memory and encouraging others is the entire reason for this project.” As of today, Talburt has personally sent enough books to have a potential reach of over 40,000 readers.
