A young man from Bakersfield charged with making a terroristic threat at the local school will receive counseling prior to his next court appearance.
Hometown Daily News reports the order from Judge Cynthia Ann MacPherson says the defendant, 19-year-old Derek Beaver, is allowed to go to Arkansas for counseling and medical care. He returns to court on May 15th.
Ozark County Sheriffs deputies arrested Beaver on February 23rd, after he allegedly crafted plans to attack the school using assault rifles and other weapons.
Ozark County Sheriff Darrin Reed says the Bakersfield School District learned of the threat and immediately contacted his office. He says the school was never under an immediate threat, and there were no weapons on campus.
Court records show Beaver was released from jail on a supervised bond release on March 1st.
If convicted of the Class D felony, Beaver could be sentenced to up to seven years imprisonment.
