L-R: Ronnie Wood and Mick Jagger; Michael Campanella/RedfernsIf you need a gift for the Rolling Stones fan in your life, or if you just want to treat yourself, hop online a month from now for your chance to own a lithograph of Mick Jagger — painted by Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood.
The unframed color lithograph — number 181 out of a limited edition of 285 — measures about 38 by 27 inches and is a full-length painting of Jagger at the mic, in concert, clad all in black. Numbered and signed by Wood, it’s appropriately titled “Paint It Black — Out of Control.”
Check your bank account first, if you’re interested. The piece is expected to sell for between 1,200 and 1,500 euros, about $1,480 to $1,850. But as these auctions usually go, don’t be surprised to see it sell for much higher.
Wood, of course, is an accomplished painter and visual artist whose work has been collected and exhibited around the world for decades. His Rolling Stones band mates are understandably some of his frequent subjects. Wood also recently survived a cancer scare and will join the Stones on the road when the European leg of their No Filter tour begins May 17 in Dublin, Ireland.
Also for sale is a caricature of Jagger apparently signed by the singer, by an unspecified artist. That’s expected to sell for between 200 to 300 euros, about 250 to 370 bucks.
