April rainfall near normal, two record low temps set

Other than a round of severe weather that affected the area on Friday the 13th, the weather in April was pretty tame in the Twin Lakes Area with slightly above normal rainfall, although two new record low temperatures were recorded.

At the KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot studios, the official weather reporting station in Mountain Home for the National Weather Service, the low dipped to 24 degrees on both April 7th and 8th which eclipsed the previous record lows of 25 set in 2007 for both dates.

The highest temperature recorded for the month was 83 on the 18th. The highest ever recorded in April in Mountain Home was 95 in 1940.

Severe weather struck the area on the evening of the 13th with damage reported in the city of Mountain Home and in the Gamaliel area. Straight line winds upwards of 95 miles per hour caused the damage in Mountain Home while an EF-1 tornado was confirmed in Gamaliel.

The rainfall for April totaled 4.48 inches which was 35 hundredths of an inch above the normal rainfall which is 4.13 inches. The most rain fell the night of the 13th, which is recorded on the 14th, when 1.71 inches was recorded. The highest one day rain total in April in Mountain Home is 4.42 inches

For the year to date, 18.06 inches of rain has fallen in Mountain Home. Normal rainfall through the first four months is 14.35 meaning the area is well into the plus column at 3.71 inches above normal.
