Neal Preston © Queen Productions Ltd.Adam Lambert appeared on Live with Kelly & Ryan on Monday morning to announce that he and Queen will be doing a limited-engagement Las Vegas residency this September. The singer says the residency at the Park Theater at Park MGM, called The Crown Jewels, will be an interesting experiment for the legendary rock band, with whom he’s been singing on and off since 2011.
“We usually do one show and then move to another city, maybe two back to back, but this is the first time we’ve sat down for three weeks total,” Lambert told ABC Radio after the announcement. “We’re really excited, ’cause that just changes the whole feel of it.”
He explained, “When you’re on the road all the time, you’re having to adjust for whatever building you’re in and you’re in a new climate, with a new audience in front of you. This will give us this consistency that’ll be really interesting to explore.”
Lambert feels that Vegas is “a good place for spectacle,” so Queen’s show is “a really nice fit.” The band’s stage will be custom-designed to fit the 5,200-seat theater, while they’ve yet to discuss a set list.
Considering that Queen + Adam Lambert have played venues seating 80,000 people, will the more intimate surroundings mean Adam and Queen will have to pull back a bit with their performance?
“I don’t really how to reel it in,” Lambert says, laughing. “Especially with Brian May‘s guitar amps as loud as they are, I think it’s just a rock ‘n’ roll show like Queen should be. You’re just gonna get to sit a little closer this time!”
Tickets go on sale May 11 at 10 a.m. PT via Ticketmaster.com. The Vegas dates are September 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 14, 15, 19, 21 and 22.
