Argument over lawn mower leads to gunfire

A Marion County man, 35-year-old Chancey Wilson of Flippin, has been arrested following an argument over a lawn mower leading to shots being fired.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Friday, Wilson is alleged to have attempted to remove his lawn mower from a residence along Highway 178 North on June 19th. He spoke with a man, who was outside the residence with a woman and her two-year-old son.

The man told officers he advised Wilson to speak with the homeowner before taking the mower. An argument ensued, leading to Wilson grabbing a pistol from his truck and pointing it at the man. The man said just before Wilson pulled the trigger, he raised the gun a little higher and fired a shot. He said they continued to argue, Wilson charged at him, pointed the weapon at him and fired again. He said he was unsure if two or three rounds were fired. Wilson then went to this truck and left.

During the confrontation, the female went around the side of a barn with her son and called 911.

An officer located Wilson at a residence along County Road 7011, along with a .40 caliber pistol one spent casing and a loaded magazine on the tire well on the driver’s side of a truck bed.

Wilson told officers he went to get his lawn mower and argued with a man who came at him with a wrench, leading him to grab his pistol. He said he fired two rounds into the air to defend himself.

Wilson was charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault, along with misdemeanor counts of endanger the welfare of a minor and driving on a suspended license.

His bond was set at $20,000.
