A rural Mountain Home man, arrested following an incident in late 2017 after he reportedly began swinging a hatchet at deputies, has been found not fit to proceed in the cases against him. Nykola Kotyk faces a number of charges, including aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and criminal use of a prohibited weapon. The 54-year-old Kotyk has been placed in the custody of the Department of Human Services for detention, care and treatment of his mental problems.

He was arrested in late December last year when deputies answered a disturbance call. They reported finding Kotyk standing in his yard “screaming and cussing at the top of his voice.”

Deputies had to use Tasers to bring Kotyk under control. According to court records, Kotyk is alleged to have swung a hatchet at the deputies. He made repeated demands to the officers to arrest his neighbors.

Kotyk said his neighbors had electrified his house and placed a force field around his residence, in addition to placing chips and bugs into his body.

The neighbors reported Kotyk threatened to put rat poison down their well, and he had a “bullet with your name on it.” He is also alleged to have threatened to burn down the neighbors’ house at night when they were sleeping.

Kotyk has proclaimed himself “100 innocent.” He said he had lived in the area for 15 years and was a “good citizen.”

In the not-fit-to-proceed commitment order, DHS is required to report to the court no later than 10 months from Kotyk’s commitment.
