MHHS basketball teams host Jonesboro for conference opener

High school basketball makes up the local Friday schedule as 5A-East action begins for Mountain Home. The Bombers and Lady Bombers will be at home as they meet Jonesboro.
Mountain Home’s girls are currently 8-5 on the season. The Lady Bombers are coming off a runner-up finish in the First Arkansas Bail Bonds Tournament after falling to Paragould on Saturday. Jonesboro is 9-4. The Lady Hurricane wrapped up the Pink and White Tournament in Springfield on Saturday with a win over Buffalo to capture the consolation championship of the Pink Division.
The Mountain Home boys bring a 5-7 record into the league opener. The Bombers finished the previous week by defeating Clarendon to win the championship of the First Arkansas Bail Bonds Tournament. Jonesboro is 9-4 on the year. The Golden Hurricane finished second in the Poplar Bluff Showdown on Saturday following a one-point loss to the host Mules.
The girls’ game tips off at 6 p.m. followed by the boys’ contest. Both games can be heard on Classic Hits 101.7 and streaming live at ktlo.com.

The North Arkansas College Invitational Senior High Tournament will hold its semifinal round at the Pioneer Pavilion in Harrison. In girls’ action, Norfork and Jasper get underway at 4:00, and Valley Springs faces Alpena at 7:00. On the boys’ bracket, Valley Springs takes on Deer at 5:20, and Bergman plays Western Grove at 8:00.

Gainesville’s girls will be back will continue play in the Sparta Lady Trojan Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs will meet the host team at 5:30.

Changes have been made to Friday’s games Norfork will host against Flippin. The seventh grade girls tip off at 5:00 followed by the seventh grade and high school boys’ contests.

Elsewhere, the Gainesville boys travel to Conway, Salem entertains Sloan-Hendrix, Mammoth Spring makes the trip to Armorel, Calico Rock is home against Lead Hill, Izard County heads to Mount Vernon-Enola, Melbourne hosts Marmaduke, St. Joe travels to Oark, and Rural Special entertains Guy-Perkins.

On the junior varsity level, Viola makes the trip to Timbo.
