Izard County teams split, Mammoth Spring boys lose heartbreaker

In high school basketball Thursday night, the Izard County boys continued to roll with a 69-25 win over Bruno-Pyatt. Justus Cooper led the way with 16 points and Dylan Tharp scored 10. The Cougars improve to 23-4 overall and 10-0 in the 1A-2 Conference.

The Lady Cougars were knocked out of the George Kell Classic at Swifton with a 49-41 loss to Trumann. Bethany Simmons paced Izard County with 17 points and Maura Thomason and Ashlynn Bratcher each scored 10.

The Izard County junior girls got a three pointer at the buzzer to beat Bruno-Pyatt 32-30. Katie Pate and Ava Lewis each scored 11 points for the Junior Lady Cougars.

It was a tough loss for the Mammoth Spring boys Thursday night as they fell in double overtime to Crowley's Ridge Academy 49-48. Jacob Golden scored 17 points for the Bears and Zack Flynn added 10. Mammoth Spring falls to 14-10 on the season.
