Rural MH man accused of reporting to jail with meth in pocket

A rural Mountain Home man serving a weekend sentence in the Baxter County Detention Center is facing additional charges after he was allegedly found in possession of illegal drugs. According to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, 52-year-old Thomas Wheeler was booked on felony counts of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and furnishing prohibited articles.

Wheeler arrived at the detention center Friday evening to begin his weekend sentence. A jailer reportedly found a glass vial in his pants pocket. The vial contained less than a gram of a substance testing positive for methamphetamine.

Wheeler's bond was set at $5,000, but the District Court Probation Office placed a hold on him for a probation violation. He is scheduled to answer to the new charges Thursday in Baxter County Circuit Court.

Wheeler has been booked into the Baxter County Detention Center approximately 17 times since 2002.
