Baxter County is once again receiving national recognition. MSN.com recently ran an article from the website 24/7wallst.com featuring the best place to retire in every state, and Baxter County got the top ranking for Arkansas.
Jeff Pipkin says as Mountain Home Area Chamber of Commerce president and CEO, he feels a sense of pride with the recognition.
The population in Baxter County is just over 41,000, and 30.5 percent of the county's residents are at least 65 years of age, which is the highest rate of Arkansas's 75 counties. The median home value is $124,400, and Baxter County's estimated monthly living expenses for a family of two ranks 39th in the state at $3,478.55. In addition, primary care physicians are estimated at 85.4 per 100,000.
Pipkin says there are several criteria as to how Baxter County was selected as the state's best place to retire.
