ABC/Image Group LAWith a stable full of romantic hits like “Sleep Without You,” “In Case You Didn’t Know,” “Like I Loved You” and “Mercy,” it seems oddly appropriate that Brett Young has managed to set the bar impossibly high for himself on February 14.
“Valentine’s Day is gonna be hard for me from now on,” he explains, “because I got engaged last Valentine’s Day. Not on the day of — two days later — because it fell on a Wednesday when we were playing the rodeo, and that didn’t feel like the right day to do it. But our Valentine’s dinner was the night I proposed.”
Brett and his wife, Taylor, were married last November during a ceremony in Palm Desert, California, that found Luke Combs, Lee Brice, and Gavin DeGraw serenading the couple. Now that he’s settling into married life, Brett says he’s trying to strike the right balance between every day and the big, romantic occasions.
“I think I like grand gestures,” Brett says. “But I think you can get so caught up in grand gestures that you forget that you have to do things every day as well.”
“And so I probably fall somewhere in between,” he points out. “I think a holiday like that is important to do something bigger than your everyday or your monthly flower delivery.”
“Here Tonight,” the lead single from Brett’s new Ticket to L.A. record, is currently closing in on the top ten. His self-titled, debut album just marked its second anniversary on February 10.
