Student at Jasper arrested after threatening school violence

A student at the Jasper School District has been arrested after allegedly making threats at school. Newton County Sheriff Glenn Wheeler says the student allegedly threatened to commit acts of violence against other students and staff on campus.

Wheeler says the student was arrested after his office, along with the Jasper Police Department, responded to the school and investigated the report.

Sheriff Wheeler says the school "handled this situation very appropriately." He says the student was removed from the situation and "is not currently a threat."

Because the student arrested is a juvenile, no name will be released. The student was released to juvenile authorities.
