A Marion County man was sentenced to five years in prison during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday, after pleading guilty to stealing a vehicle and trying to get away without paying for items at a local store.
Forty-three-year-old Daniel Hodge of Flippin told investigators at one point he did not remember the details surrounding the theft of the truck, because he had taken a large number of pills.
The vehicle was reported stolen from a Mountain Home business July 28th last year.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Hodge said he had removed decals and other identifying markings from the vehicle's windows. He said he also tried to wipe down the inside of the truck to remove fingerprints.
In late November last year, Hodge was reported to have been observed leaving Walmart with items he had not paid for. When store employees approached him, he fled, but was later arrested.
Hodge was free on bond in the vehicle theft case when the attempted theft at Walmart took place.
