NFL owners approve reviews of pass interference calls

33ft/iStock(NEW YORK) — NFL team owners on Tuesday approved a major change to the league’s replay review system for the 2019 season.

When the season begins, offensive and defensive pass interference close calls or non-calls will get a look from the booth.

“OPI and DPI are now reviewable. We’ve never done that before,” says Rich McKay of the NFL Competition Committee.

The move to make the change stemmed from a single play in January’s NFC Championship Game between the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints. Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman’s hit on New Orleans receiver Tommy Lee Lewis potentially cost the Saints a trip to the Super Bowl.
