Dan + Shay are one of the most-nominated acts at this coming Sunday’s Academy of Country Music Awards, but Shay Mooney admits that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s prepping an elaborate acceptance speech.

Just like the title of the duo’s most recent #1, Shay plans to be “Speechless,” leaning on his musical partner, Dan Smyers, instead.

“I’m not gonna prepare one,” Shay reveals. “Dan…knows usually what he’s gonna say. He’s better.”

“But we don’t expect anything. We’re just so honored to be nominated,” Shay adds. “And there’s obviously people that you have in your head that you want to thank, no matter what. Even if you don’t win, you probably need to thank those people for even getting nominated…”

“It’s hard to prepare a speech,” he continues. “So if we happen to win… I would just look at him and be like, ‘All right, Dan, take it away!'”

But even Dan confesses he feels a little pressure.  “We won our first award a few months back at the CMT Awards…” he recalls. “I went through a long list of people I was rattling off, and then you hear the music start playing and there’s always somebody you forget.”

“And you’re like ‘Oh, man!’ You’ve got to send them, like, a nice bottle or flowers or something,” Dan adds, as Shay laughs.

Dan + Shay could take home six trophies as a duo on Sunday night, with nominations for Duo, Single, Song, Video, Album and Music Event. Dan could even win several extra statues for his work as a producer and writer.

The duo’s also scheduled to perform “Keeping Score,” their nominated song with Kelly Clarkson. You can watch the 54th ACM Awards, live from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, starting Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
