A few of the spillway gates were opened Monday morning at Norfork Dam. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced spillway releases began in an effort to compensate for one generator taken off-line.
The Corps opened four of the dam’s 12 gates one foot each releasing nearly 1,400 cubic feet per second. With the addition of the water released from the two generators, Norfork Dam is releasing a combined total of 4,400 cubic feet per second.
