Jimmy Page, Don Felder, Steve Miller (Taylor Hill/Getty Images)Three Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-inductees and guitar legends — Jimmy Page, Steve Miller and Don Felder — took part in a special press event Monday at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, previewing a new exhibit called “Play It Loud: Instruments of Rock and Roll.“
Opening April 8, the exhibit features more than 130 instruments played by such music greats as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Eddie Van Halen, Joni Mitchell and Metallica, as well as Page, Miller and Felder.
During the event, Page and Miller spoke about the exhibit and their passion for guitars, while Felder gave a brief performance.
Page, seen in a video posted on the New Yorkled website, discussed what fascinates him about the electric guitar, noting, “Each and every musician plays with their own character and invention.”
Felder, meanwhile, posted photos of himself with Page and Miller at the event on his Facebook page.
Among the instruments included in the display are such famous electric guitars as Clapton’s “Blackie,” Van Halen’s “Frankenstein” and Jerry Garcia‘s “Wolf,” as well as Keith Emerson‘s massive keyboard setup and Keith Moon‘s “Pictures of Lily” drum kit.
The exhibition also features the guitar Chuck Berry used to record “Johnny B. Goode”; Hendrix’s personally decorated “Love Drops” guitar; and Page’s iconic 1970s stage outfit decorated with an embroidered dragon.
In addition, the exhibit features a sculpture created from the pieces of an electric guitar that Pete Townshend smashed during a photo shoot, as well as vintage posters, videos and stage costumes.
The “Play It Loud” exhibit will run through October 1, 2019, at the Met and then will move on to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, where it will open in November.
