Wicked Cool Records/UMeThe second advance track from Summer of Sorcery — Little Steven Van Zandt‘s forthcoming album with his group The Disciples of Soul — is an homage to the girl-group sound titled “A World of Our Own.” It debuted Thursday on Billboard.com.

The soaring, soulful ballad features Phil Spector-inspired production with layers of strings, horns and backing vocals.

“Growing up, The Shirelles, The Chiffons, The Ronettes, The Crystals and The Shangri-Las were really important to me,” the longtime E Street Band guitarist says of the new tune. “This song is my take on the type of song I might have written for a Girl Group like one of those fantastic acts back in the day.”

Fans who pre-order Summer of Sorcery will receive immediate free downloads of “A World of Our Own” and another track, “Superfly Terraplane,” which premiered last month.

As previously reported, Summer of Sorcery will be released on May 3 and is Van Zandt’s first album featuring mostly new original material in 20 years.

Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul launch a Down Under tour this Saturday, April 13, in Perth, Australia, that runs through an April 27 show in Auckland, New Zealand.

After that, the band will celebrate Summer of Sorcery’s release with concerts on May 4 in Los Angeles and May 8 in Asbury Park, New Jersey, followed by a series of European performances in May and June.
