Law enforcement in Newton County is investigating the possible attempted abduction of two girls. Newton County Sheriff Glenn Wheeler says the incident happened Saturday afternoon in Western Grove.
The sheriff says the girls, who are in their early to mid teens, were approached by a man carrying a large stick who said “let’s play” to them. As the teens started walking away, the man continued after them. The teens began running with the man chasing them. He was able to catch one of the girls, but she hit him and got away.
Newton County Sheriff’s Office personnel searched the area and spoke to people living there, but were unable to locate the suspect.
The girls described the man as a “total meth head” with sunken in cheeks. He had blonde hair, is believed in be in his late 20s or early 30s and was wearing jeans and a blue shirt, both of which had holes in them.
Sheriff Wheeler says they are asking anyone with information to contact the Newton County Sheriff’s Office at 870-446-5124.
