Keith Urban is currently the reigning Entertainer of the Year for both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music.
That’s quite a feat: the last time the same artist held both titles was back in 2014, when Luke Bryan picked up both trophies. Keith says the Entertainer title is significant to him because it’s validation for his artistic endeavors.
“I think that’s what it is. It’s the support that I get for going on the sort of creative adventures that I go on,” the Aussie superstar says.
“I feel pulled towards particular music when I’m creating,” he explains. “And I don’t know where it goes most of the time, but I just sort of wander along and float and see where the river goes. And sometimes it wanders off a place that I’ve never been before.”
The “Comin’ Home” hitmaker points out that’s been especially true on his last two albums.
“I don’t expect that people will support it necessarily,” Keith confesses. “So when it happens like that — when I get to make a record like Graffiti U or particularly Ripcord, those two records — and they get supported the way they have, it’s an incredible feeling for any artist.”
So far, Keith hasn’t released a fourth track from Graffiti U, though he has put out his cover of Irish singer/songwriter Foy Vance‘s “Burden,” while pointing out that it’s not a single release in the traditional sense.
Keith teases he’s already thinking about heading into the studio to work on his next record.
