Big MachineThis week, Riley Green reaches the pinnacle of success as a new artist as his debut single, “There Was This Girl,” hits number one.

But the Alabama native — and former star of CMT’s Redneck Island — insists he never really earmarked a chart-topping song as a goal.

“It’s funny. I don’t think that was ever a dream of mine,” Riley admits. “You know, of course, when I signed my deal and I got a song on the radio, that was something I never imagined.”

He continues: “So, a number-one song for me, especially from a songwriter’s standpoint, I guess that’s a little bit of a stamp of approval that people are relating to, you know, something that I made up — all over the place.”

And now, audiences “all over the place,” just like Riley said, are channeling his tunes back to him.

“One thing I’ve noticed is,” he explains, “where I maybe had a little success in the Southeast touring, now people sing my songs all over the country.”

He adds: “You know, that’s something that makes the travel worth it and the long nights. It keeps you going.”

There’s plenty of travel ahead for Riley, as he hits the road with Brad Paisley on his World Tour May 30 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
