Courtesy of Sony Pictures ClassicsAfter being screened at several 2019 film festivals, the new documentary David Crosby: Remember My Name will get its theatrical premiere on July 19 in New York City and Los Angeles, with a nationwide opening to follow.
As previously reported, Remember My Name takes a warts-and-all look at the 77-year-old folk-rock legend’s life, including his battle with substance abuse and his recent burst of creativity that coincided with the 2015 breakup of Crosby, Stills & Nash.
The movie was directed by A.J. Eaton, and co-produced by acclaimed filmmaker and rock journalist Cameron Crowe. Crowe and Eaton also conducted interviews with David Crosby for the film.
Remember My Name got its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January, and was also screened at both the Boulder International Film Festival and the South by Southwest Festival. Next up for the flick will be an April 27 screening at New Jersey’s Asbury Park Music & Film Festival, where Crosby and Crowe both will take part in a Q&A session.
In a new interview in the Asbury Park Press, Crosby notes that although it was difficult for him to dig into the negative aspects of his life for the documentary, he’s glad that the film went as deep as it did.
“I’m happy with it,” David says. “Truthfully there’s a certain cathartic effect to it. It frees you, in a sense, to have to look at all that stuff and then set it down.”
In other news, Crosby, who’s quite the outspoken Twitter user, has been hired as Rolling Stone‘s advice columnist.
