Texas teen survives fall near Hawksbill Crag

A Texas teenager was able to survive a fall near Hawksbill Crag on Saturday. Newton County Sheriff Glenn Wheeler says it’s the third fall reported in the area this year, and it comes one week after 20-year-old Andrea Norton of Hot Springs, South Dakota fell off the crag to her death.

According to the Harrison Daily Times, Sheriff Wheeler says the male teen from Pasadena was hiking with family members when he slipped on rocks and fell nearly 15 feet on the trail at Mule Tail Falls leading to Hawksbill Crag. He suffered serious leg and facial injuries and was airlifted to Arkansas Children’s Northwest Hospital in Springdale.

Sheriff Wheeler says family members called in the emergency when they located an area with cellphone service. Nearly 30 emergency personnel responded to the scene.
