Now, Simon has revealed the specific organizations that will be receiving the funds.

San Francisco Parks Alliance and Friends of the Urban Forest will be the beneficiaries of Simon’s festival performance.  The SFPA was founded in 1969 and works with with community groups, local businesses and city government to maintain and beautify San Francisco’s existing parks and public spaces and create new ones.

Friends of the Urban Forest, established in 1981, supports and promotes the planting of street trees and community gardens throughout San Francisco. Since its inception, the organization has helped facilitate the planting of more than 60,000 trees — nearly half of all the street trees in the city.

Simon retired from touring last September, but has vowed to continue to play select concerts and events in an effort to raise money for various charities he supports.

The Outside Lands festival will be held at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, and will run from August 9 through August 11. Simon will appear on the 11th.

This year’s lineup also features a few other veteran acts, including Simon’s wife, Edie Brickell, and her group New Bohemians, as well as Counting Crows and soul/gospel legend Mavis Staples. The festival’s other headliners include singer and rapper Childish Gambino and alternative rockers Twenty One Pilots.
