Legacy RecordingsFull details have been unveiled about the recently announced archival Bob Dylan box set The Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1975 Live Recordings, which will be released June 7 and will serve as a companion piece to the forthcoming Martin Scorsese-directed film focusing on the first leg of Dylan’s 1975-1976 trek.
As previously reported, the collection will featured 148 tracks spread over 14 CDs, and will include the five full concerts that were professionally recorded during the ’75 Rolling Thunder Revue tour, as well as recently rediscovered recordings from tour rehearsals held at New York’s S.I.R. studios.
More than 100 of the tracks featured on The Rolling Thunder Revue are previously unreleased. The full shows took place in November and December ’75 at venues in Worcester, Cambridge and Boston, Massachusetts, and in Quebec City, Canada. The box set also includes a CD featuring newly unearthed rehearsal recordings from a motel in Falmouth, Massachusetts, and another CD of rare performances from various venues and stops along the tour route.
In addition, the package features a 52-page booklet offering rare photos from the trek and a new essay.
The Rolling Thunder Revue tour featured Dylan delivering a series of lengthy and loose performances with a cast of musicians that included Joan Baez, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Byrds frontman Roger McGuinn, ex-David Bowie guitarist Mick Ronson and Bob Neuwirth. Joni Mitchell and poet Allen Ginsberg also made special appearances at some of the shows.
Coinciding with the box set, a three-LP vinyl reissue of The Bootleg Series Vol. 5: Bob Dylan Live 1975, The Rolling Thunder Revue — originally released as a two-CD set in 2002 — will be available for purchase.
The Scorsese-directed film, Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story, will premiere June 12 on Netflix.
