County officials across Arkansas have sent out notices to remind state residents who did not vote in the past election to update their registration information. Baxter County Clerk Canda Reese says a federal law mandates counties in odd number years to send out confirmation and cancellation mailings to those who haven't voted in a recent election or provided updated information to the clerk's office to get their voter registration up-to-date.
Reese says a large number of mailings are going out.
Reese says they have also sent out just over 2,100 cancellation notices.
The Baxter County clerk says to watch for the postcards because they won't have a return address from Mountain Home.
Reese says they encourage everyone who receives one of the colored postcards to return it as soon as possible to avoid any problems voting in future elections. There are currently about 29,000 registered voters in Baxter County.
In Marion County, 2,775 confirmation mailings are going out and 649 cancellations. Those postcards will also have a return address of Searcy. There are roughly 10,000 registered voters in Marion County.
