Warner Bros. RecordsFifty years after they first started rocking, ZZ Top is still goin’ strong, and as part of the celebrations marking their half-century anniversary, the Texas trio will release a new compilation called Goin’ 50 on August 16.
The career-spanning collection will feature 50 tracks, and will be available as a three-CD and a five-LP vinyl package. In addition, single-CD, digital and streaming versions of the album featuring only 18 tracks will be released on June 14.
Goin’ 50 boasts most of ZZ Top’s biggest hits and best-known songs, and also features plenty of deeper cuts. Among the classics included on the album are “La Grange,” “Tush,” “Cheap Sunglasses,” “I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide,” “Gimme All Your Lovin’,” “Got Me Under Pressure,” “Legs,” “Sleeping Bag” and “Rough Boy.” Also included in the comp are the band’s covers of Elvis Presley‘s “Viva Las Vegas” and Sam & Dave’s “I Thank You,” as well as live versions of “Waitin’ for the Bus” and “Jesus Just Left Chicago.” In addition, Goin’ 50 features two bonus tracks recorded in 1969 by ZZ Top’s original lineup — “Salt Lick” and “Miller’s Farm.”
As previously reported, ZZ Top will play three special 50th anniversary shows in three Texas cities on May 17, 18 and 19, along with opening acts Bad Company and Cheap Trick. Then, after mounting a European trek in June and July, the group will launch a lengthy 50th anniversary tour of North America that kicks off in Ridgefield, Washington, on August 16, the same day as the 50-track version of Goin’ 50 arrives. Cheap Trick will be the support act at most of the North American shows, while Lynyrd Skynyrd will perform at a pair of August dates.
