A graduate of Calico Rock High School, who was named Miss Arkansas in 2016, fared very well at the Miss USA Pageant Thursday night in Reno. Savannah Skidmore made the top five before she was eliminated.

Skidmore was selected into the top 15 after preliminary events. The judges then eliminated five contestants after the swimsuit competition and the remaining 10 continued in the evening wear segment of the contest. After five more contestants were eliminated, it came down to the top five in the question portion of the show in which contestants answered queries formulated by their peers. Skidmore and one other contestant were eliminated during that round.

Miss North Carolina Chelsie Kryst wound up winning the title of Miss USA.

Skidmore finished as first runner-up in the Miss Arkansas contest in 2016, then took over the title of Miss Arkansas when the winner, Savvy Shields, was crowned Miss America. In November, Skidmore won the Miss Arkansas USA Pageant.

The 24-year-old Skidmore is a first year law student at the University of Arkansas School of Law. She earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Arkansas.
