Local baseball, softball teams in regional play Friday

Baseball and softball dominate the local Friday schedule.

Weather permitting, the Class 2A West Regional Baseball Tournament will start Friday at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison after Thursday’s weather delay. On Pippin Field, Yellville-Summit gets underway at 5 p.m. against Danville, and Cotter meets Lavaca at 7:30. Flippin faces Mountainburg at 7:30 on Jack Williams Field. Officials are expected to make the call Friday at noon if the games will be played Friday and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday.

The Class 1A Region 2 Baseball Tournament will also start a day late due to the recent weather. Mammoth Spring and Calico Rock will have the opener at noon, Izard County takes on Hillcrest at 2:30, Viola plays Ridgefield Christian at 5, and Norfork will be paired with Armorel at 7:30.

Due to the storm damage at McCrory, the Class 2A North Regional Baseball Tournament has been moved to Marked Tree. Salem meets East Poinsett County at 2:30, and Melbourne faces McCrory at 5.

Harrison will continue action in the Class 4A North Regional Tournament at Farmington. The Goblins take on Pottsville in the semifinals at 2:30

In other high school baseball, Gainesville travels to Morrisville to play Marion C. Early, and Dora makes the trip to Neelyville.

A decision will also be made Friday at noon on the status of the Class 2A West Regional Softball Tournament at Harrison. If the weather permits, Cotter begins action on Wood Motor Field against Danville at 5:00 followed by Yellville-Summit and Lavaca at 7:30. Flippin will be matched up with Hector at 7:30 on Cavender’s Field.

The Class 1A Region 2 Softball Tournament will get underway at Viola. Izard County and Hillcrest open play at noon, Calico Rock meets Maynard at 2:30, Viola faces Mammoth Spring at 5, and Norfork takes on Armorel at 7:30.

The Class 2A North Regional Softball Tournament is also being moved to Marked Tree. Melbourne gets started at noon against Marked Tree, and Salem plays Armorel at 7:30.
