Lynyrd Sknyrd is among the bands participating in Live Nation’s National Concert Week promotion, offering $20 tickets to select upcoming U.S. tours. Longtime Skynyrd guitarist Rickey Medlocke says the promotion is great for many of his band’s fans who otherwise might not be able to afford to see the Southern rockers live.

“Many of the people that come out to see us…are heavy-duty…working-class people — probably more blue collar than anything,” Medlocke tells ABC Radio. “And I always feel good, I know that the band does, when we can offer…a discounted ticket price to fans.”

This year’s trek is part of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour, which features a celebration of the group’s history, as well as support acts including Bad Company, Gov’t Mule and Hank Williams Jr.

Rickey says the special nature of the shows is all the more reason for fans to see Skynyrd play this year.

“We’ve put together an incredible package,” he notes, “[and] the production is just amazing.”

Medlocke wants fans to know that despite the trek being called a “farewell tour,” Lynyrd Skynyrd isn’t planning to retire from playing live — they just won’t do lengthy treks after this one winds down. As for when the tour will end, Rickey says it most likely will “roll into 2020,” because the group wants to visit various countries outside of the U.S.

In other news, Medlocke says Lynyrd Skynyrd will hit a studio this week to record a new song with hopes of releasing it, maybe with an accompanying video, “by the last part of the year.”
