Credit: Austin LordPeter Frampton was among the honorees at the 2019 Music Biz Awards, held Tuesday night in Nashville, Billboard reports. The veteran guitar whiz was presented with the Chairman’s Award for Sustained Creative Achievement at the Music Biz 2019 Awards & Hall of Fame Dinner.
In accepting the award, Frampton, who recently was diagnosed with a degenerative muscle disease that’s forcing him to retire from touring soon, expressed his gratitude for being able to enjoy a career as a musician. He also revealed that he and his band recently have recorded four albums and are spending as much time as possible in the studio, since his ailment will eventually rob him of his ability to play guitar.
“I’ve never recorded this much in my life, but I have to do that right now because this year will be my final tour,” Frampton noted. “Unfortunately, it’s not because I want to stop…We all have our battles. I am having some health problems, but I really am the luckiest guy because my passion for my music has kept me going through many, many years of up and down, up and down, sideways.”
He added, “The support and love I have received since I announced my health issue has been absolutely overwhelming…Thank you for this incredible award. I don’t deserve it, but I thank you dearly.”
As previously reported, Frampton will release a blues covers album titled All Blues on June 7, and will launch his Finale — The Farewell Tour on June 18 in Catoosa, Oklahoma. Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening will serve as opening act at most of the shows.
