State baseball, softball tournaments begin Thursday in Arkansas

High school baseball and softball make up much of the local Thursday schedule as state tournaments begin throughout Arkansas.

The Mountain Home High School baseball team will be in Little Rock for one of the openers in the Class 5A State Tournament hosted by Benton. The Bombers’ first opponent will be Texarkana.
Mountain Home comes into the game as the champions of the 5A-East. Texarkana is the fourth-seeded team from the South.
The first pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. on the campus of Joe T. Robinson High School.

The Class 2A State Baseball Tournament will get underway in Mountain Home with Salem designated as the host school. On Pitts Field at McClain Park, Lavaca and Riverside get underway at 10, South Side-Bee Branch meets Woodlawn at 12:30, Flippin faces McCrory at 3, and Conway Christian takes on Parkers Chapel at 5:30. On Lester White Field at Cooper Park, Carlisle and Junction City will play the opener at 10, Salem will be paired with Hector at 12:30, Conway St. Joseph meets Horatio at 3, and Bay faces Danville at 5:30.

Five area baseball teams will take part in the Class 1A State Tournament hosted by Taylor. At Taylor High School, Izard County and Omaha get the action started at 10, and Mammoth Spring takes on County Line at 3. Viola plays Jasper at 5:30 on the campus of Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia.

Harrison will begin the Class 4A State Baseball Tournament at Southside Batesville. The Goblins will be matched up with Camden Fairview at 10.

Mountain Home’s high school softball team will travel to Benton for its opener in the Class 5A State Tournament. The Lady Bombers opponent in the first round will be El Dorado.
Mountain Home is the second-seeded team from the East. El Dorado is the number three seed from the the 5A-South.
Gametime at the Benton Athletic Complex is slated for 5:30.

Taylor is the host school of the Class 1A State Softball Tournament, and three area teams will compete. Viola meets Western Yell County at 10 at Magnolia High School, and Calico Rock faces Omaha at 12:30 at Taylor High School.

Salem is the designated host of the Class 2A State Softball Tournament in Mountain Home. On Freedom Field at McClain Park, the Lady Greyhounds will have the opener at 10 against Hackett, Quitman takes on Murfreesboro at 12:30, East Poinsett County plays Hector at 3, and South Side-Bee Branch will be paired with Horatio at 5:30. At Keller Park, Magnet Cove and Parkers Chapel play the opener at 10, Melbourne meets Lavaca at 12:30, Poyen faces Cossatot River at 3, and McCrory takes on Danville at 5:30.
