Baseball and softball make up much of the local Saturday schedule. State championship matchups will be determined in Arkansas, and some area baseball teams in Missouri will begin district play.
The Viola High School baseball team will be in Taylor for the semifinals of the Class 1A State Tournament. The Longhorns will take on fellow Region 2 member Armorel at 2:30.
The semifinals of the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament will be held on Pitts Field at McClain Park in Mountain Home. McCrory and Woodlawn get underway at noon, and Horatio plays Junction City at 2:30.
Bakersfield begins the postseason in Dora as they compete in the Class 1, District 4 Tournament. The Lions will be paired with Koshkonong at 2.
Two area baseball teams will start action in the Class 5, District 10 Tournament at Parkview High School in Springfield. Branson faces Ozark at 2, and West Plains takes on Springfield Kickapoo at 5.
Hollister will begin hosting the Class 4, District 11 Tournament. The Tigers get started at 1 against Bolivar.
Melbourne’s softball team will be back on Freedom Field at McClain Park in Mountain Home for its semifinal game in the Class 2A State Tournament. The Lady Bearkatz meet Poyen at 2:30.
In the other semifinal, Quitman and East Poinsett County will get underway at noon.
