ST. LOUIS (AP) – Hearing aids would be easier to get for poor Missourians under a bill awaiting the governor’s signature. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports lawmakers gave final approval Tuesday
to the measure, sending it to Republican Gov. Mike Parson for consideration.

Budget writers set aside $100,000 for the program for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1. To qualify for help obtaining hearing aids, people must fall under the federal poverty level, which amounts to an annual income of less than $12,490 per year for an individual or $25,750 for a family of four. Audiologists also will need to perform assessments.

The Missouri Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing also may accept
donations for the fund and write regulations for doling out the money.
