LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – Leaders in Little Rock have delayed a decision on Mayor Frank Scott Jr.’s proposal to cut the city’s expenditures by about $2.1 million for the rest of 2019.

The city’s $210 million budget was approved by the city board and outgoing Mayor Mark Stodola about two weeks before Scott took office in January. According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the budget included a roughly $7 million deficit.

At a city board meeting Tuesday, directors considered a proposal that would eliminate 21 positions in the Parks and Recreation Department, eight of which are currently open. The proposal also calls for six-figure budget cuts to the city attorney’s office, the Housing and Neighborhood Programs Department and golf courses. It would also eliminate the position of assistant city manager following a retirement in June.
