SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) – A retired Springfield teacher has been found not guilty of sexually abusing a child.
A jury on Thursday acquitted 74-year-old Danny Carroll of two counts of first-degree child molestation. Carroll worked more than 30 years in education.
The Springfield News-Leader reports he was charged in August 2016 after a 12-year-old girl accused him of using a vibrating on her over her clothing while she was visiting his Greene County home.
Court documents say Carroll told Greene County Sheriff’s deputies he used the massager on the girl because she wasn’t feeling well. He said the device accidentally slipped to the girl’s vagina when he looked at the TV.
Carroll’s attorney, Stacie Bilyeu, said she hopes the public will accept the verdict and believe that he is innocent.
