The Viola High School baseball team captured its third state championship in a come-from-behind fashion. After being down 5-0 early in the Class 1A title game, the Longhorns came back and defeated Taylor 6-5 Monday at Baum-Walker Stadium in Fayetteville.

The Tigers took their 5-0 advantage in the second inning but would not score again. Viola didn’t score until the fourth inning when two runs came across on an RBI single and a passed ball. The Longhorns later tied the game in the top of the sixth when Dalton Roork hit a bases-clearing double. In the seventh inning, Longhorns had runners at first and second with two outs when pitcher Will Wilson provided a base hit to left field to drive in the go-ahead run. Viola held off Taylor in the last half of the inning to secure the title.

Wilson was named the tournament’s most valuable player. The Longhorns’ final record for the season is 26-7.
