The Mountain Home Area Chamber of Commerce’s partnership with the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Research and Extension took another step in taking “Baxter County Forward.” The initiative’s action teams unveiled an action plan Tuesday at the Vada Sheid Community Development Center on the campus of Arkansas State University-Mountain Home.
Late last year, the public was given a survey into what were the most important issues facing the Twin Lakes Area. Chamber president and CEO Jeff Pipkin says it was a surprise to learn the top issue was the local drug problems.
Pipkin says there are other issues being addressed by the action teams.
Pipkin also says they have an action team looking to recruit new businesses and making sure the existing businesses in Mountain Home are prosperous.
Arkansas Tourism Director Jim Daily was among the speakers as he presented opportunities for tourism development for the current century. In addition, University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture and Research and Extension Vice President Dr. Rick Cartwright discussed the role of land grant universities in community and economic development.
Pipkin says another thing being considered is the use of a logo. He says there is currently not a logo or brand to promote the area.
Pipkin adds more public forums will be scheduled soon as more information is provided by the action teams. A copy of the full action plan and economic development blueprint is available by clicking here.
